Unpopular opinion: you don’t need cheese to make a delicious pizza!
I was craving pizza and didn’t have any vegan cheese but happened to have a tub of beetroot hummus… so I got creative with it and whipped up this colourful & delicious veggie pizza!
If anyone else has tried hummus on pizza and loves it too then give me a hola!
Anyways, here is my recipe:

Ingredients
- ✅ 1 pre-made pizza base (or homemade pizza base)
- ✅ 2 tablespoons pizza sauce (I used @ardmona_australia )
- ✅ 1 cup button mushrooms, sliced
- ✅ 1/2 onion, sliced
- ✅ 1 cup kale, chopped
- ✅ 1 teaspoon olive oil
- ✅ 2 teaspoons soy sauce (or tamari)
- *Optional: other seasonings of choice i e. garlic, thyme, fennel etc
- ✅ 1-2 chargrilled peppers, sliced
- ✅ Handful of roasted pumpkin
- ✅ 3 tablespoons of Beetroot hummus + 1 tablespoon non-dairy milk
Instructions
- 1. Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Celsius/500 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare a pizza tray
- 2. TOPPING PREP: Heat up the oil in a fry pan on medium heat, sautée the onion for 2 mins, then add in the mushrooms, kale, soy sauce and optional other seasonings. Sautée for another 5 minutes until the mushrooms are soft & juicy
- 3. ASSEMBLE the pizza: smear the pizza sauce over the base, top with the freshly cooked vegetables, roasted pumpkin and grilled peppers
- 4. BAKE the pizza for 10 minutes until the crust is golden
- 5. In the meantime, make the beetroot hummus sauce by thinning it out with non-dairy milk
- 6. Remove the pizza from the oven and drizzle the hummus sauce over the top. Serve warm!
